The company was founded in 1988 by Jacob Heilbron, Dan Gerhard and early MTB champion Joe Murray, who has since moved to Voodoo Bikes. Heilbron and Gerhard still own and run the company.
Since 1988, Kona has been doing things a bit differently, with excellent results. Unlike some companies that have changed hands too many times, losing their founder’s vision, Kona is still owned and run by two of the three original founders. And they’ve been producing their iconic 4-bar linkage rear suspension since 1999.
